26 Point Furnace Maintenance Checklist
- Inspect all safety controls and connections
- Clean and inspect burners and burner compartment
- Visual inspection of heat exchanger (smoke bomb if needed)
- Clean and check thermocouple/ flame sensor
- Clean and check ignition of burners
- Check filter integrity/ offer replacement
- Remove and clean blower/ test run capacitor
- Adjust dampers for heating/ cooling cycle
- Check and condensation trap/ drain
- Inspect venting system for cracks/ slope/ support hangers/ clear of debris
- Check for required service access/ clearance to combustibles
- Check for adequate combustion air requirement
- Lubricate moving parts as required by
manufacture - Cycle furnace and monitor ignition and flame
- Check and record manifold pressure/ clock meter output
- Check temperature across plenum/ ductwork and adjust blower speed accordingly.
- Perform CO test-circulating air/ free air/ vent & record
- Check equipment for leaks
- Test
pipe lines for current/possible leaks. - Run system
though full operation. - Check for manufacturer’s installation/ operation manuals
- Wipe down furnace/ clean up around
furnace - Compare utility costs and life expectancy with
home owner - Offer replacement batteries for
smoke detector - Check for CO alarm/ blue flame certification (CSA 6.10-01)
- Review and all documented results/ recommendations with client
