26 Point Furnace Maintenance Checklist

1. Inspect all safety controls and connections
2. Clean and inspect burners and burner compartment
3. Visual inspection of heat exchanger (smoke bomb if needed)
4. Clean and check thermocouple/ flame sensor
5. Clean and check ignition of burners
6. Check filter integrity/ offer replacement
7. Remove and clean blower/ test run capacitor
8. Adjust dampers for heating/ cooling cycle
9. Check and condensation trap/ drain
10. Inspect venting system for cracks/ slope/ support hangers/ clear of debris
11. Check for required service access/ clearance to combustibles
12. Check for adequate combustion air requirement
13. Lubricate moving parts as required by manufacture
14. Cycle furnace and monitor ignition and flame
15. Check and record manifold pressure/ clock meter output
16. Check temperature across plenum/ ductwork and adjust blower speed accordingly.
17. Perform CO test-circulating air/ free air/ vent & record
18. Check equipment for leaks
19. Test pipe lines for current/possible leaks.
20. Run system though full operation.
21. Check for manufacturer’s installation/ operation manuals
22. Wipe down furnace/ clean up around furnace
23. Compare utility costs and life expectancy with home owner
24. Offer replacement batteries for smoke detector
25. Check for CO alarm/ blue flame certification (CSA 6.10-01)
26. Review and all documented results/ recommendations with client
